Dancing with the Stars premiere night

Posted on: March 22, 2011

Last night’s Dancing with the Stars showcased eleven stars that looked like they were serious about learning how to dance and perform. From actors, sports stars, models, former Playboy Bunny – yes Hugh Hefner was there to cheer Kendra Wilkinson on – to TV and radio personalities all the stars performed fairly well except for Wendy Williams a talk show host. She was awful!

Wendy looked stiff and scared and it looks like she will be our weeper this season if she stays on more than two weeks. Her partner Tony is an excellent dancer and if Wendy would just listen to him and learn she could last at least three weeks.

The other star that I didn’t know was Mike Catherwood a Radio Host who gives advice on his show. My advice to him is to listen to his partner Lacey, quite with the lame jokes and loosen up. He really didn’t look half bad – he may have some talent.

It looks like the judges’ favorite is Ralph Macchio. He still has his baby face and is a performer but not a dancer. Karina needs to make sure Ralph’s personality doesn’t overwhelm her. He needs to learn the technique and not count on his performance.

Romeo is a rapper and the son of Master P. If you don’t remember Master P he was the rapper who wore tennis shoes and couldn’t lift his feet more than 2 inches off the ground. He was terrible. Thank goodness his son has some rhythm and can perform. With Chelsie Hightower’s help he can go far in this competition.

Sugar Ray Leonard didn’t fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee – oh sorry that was Mohammed Ali who said that – but he did well on his first dance. His partner Anna is very good at bringing out the best in her partner and hopefully he will follow her lead.

Hines Ward’s smile lit up the whole ballroom last night and with Kim as his partner he too can go far in this competition. Did you see Franco Harris in the audience? He was waving the Pittsburgh Steeler’s terrible towel at the end of Hines’ performance.

Chelsea Kane is the youngest contestant and she did well. Mark Ballis is her partner and as long as he doesn’t come up with some really dumb performances she too can do well.

Then there was Chris Jericho a former wrestler. Cheryl is his partner and an excellent teacher. She has her work cut out for her. He has no rhythm at all.

Kendra Wilkinson looks like she will be the fun one to watch this season. Louis is her partner and she is not a shy person and enjoys shaking it. What a breath of fresh air she is. She seems to be an upbeat person and of course being a former Playboy Bunny doesn’t hurt her at all.

Petra Nemcova is a Russian beauty that has a lot of nice lines but her dancing is herky-jerky and not fluid. Dmitry should be able to bring out the best in her.

Then there was Kirstie Alley and Maksim. What a couple this will be. Kirstie is 60 years old and boy did she do a terrific job at the Cha Cha Cha. She is fun to watch and entertaining. Nothing hokey because she is a comedian but she does put some fun in her dancing. Great job Kirstie from all of us “mature” women.

Did you see Brooke Burke’s dress last night? At first it looked rather tasteful. A nice black sheath dress, low cut and body fitting. But then what in the world was the piece of material doing at her hip? Was it a bow or was it the material that should have been at the top of her dress? That dress was bizarre and once again the show must have a limited budget for co-hosts. Brooke has a great figure and is beautiful but that dress made her look like a clown. Please do better next week.

Next week the stars will dance Latin dances and then we will be pick the stars who will stay and the one who will be leaving the show. Let’s give them one more week to perform.
