America week on Dancing with the Stars

Posted on: April 19, 2011

What a great theme for Dancing with the Stars, but what a great disappointment in the dances of the stars. First of all, how can you dance to patriotic or semi-patriotic songs with a Fox Trot, Samba, Rumba, Quick Step and Waltz? Whose bright idea was this? It must have been someone with an IQ of 60 who came up with this theme and dances.  Interpretative dance is fine to perform but this is ballroom dancing. Why has this show turned to more interpretive dancing and less of ballroom dancing?

With that said I was also disappointed in what Brooke Burke was wearing. Since this was patriotic week you would think she would be dressed in colors – red, white or blue? No, she wore a black dress with silver straps. Boring! I don’t care what the judges wear or what Tom Bergeron wears, I care what Brooke wears. The wardrobe person must have been on vacation this week.

The only bright spots of the evening were a cameo from John Travolta – the Doctor of Dance. He gave humor and pizazz to Kirstie Alley’s segment. I also liked when Len blurted out to Cheryl Burke and Chris Jericho’s dance to “America the Beautiful” that Cheryl was showing off the Rocky Mountains in her dance! Those mountains didn’t move an inch while she was dancing – maybe fakes???

The one thousand competitive dance was performed by Kendra Wilkinson when she and Louie danced a Fox Trot to “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” yes, that is how it went last night. How can you dance a Fox Trot to an upbeat type of song? It was cute but not the best performance.

Hines Ward’s Rumba to “Proud to be an American” was good. Kym did the very best choreography to a song that is patriotic and not romantic. Len thought it was the best dance of the evening. The judges gave him a score of 27.

There were lots of 9’s given last night and at the end the competition tightened with three scores of 26 and three scores of 22. Kirstie Alley’s Fox Trot to “American Woman” earned her a score of 23 and she didn’t lose her shoe and no one fell. But I didn’t think it was very good.

With the competition being so close, it is hard to tell who may be voted off tonight. But I can tell you who I think are the top three: Chelsea Kane, Chris Jericho and Hines Ward. You can take your pick as who will be voted off tonight from Kirstie Alley, Ralph Macchio, Romeo, Kendra Wilkinson and Petra Nemcova.

The Results show will be featuring performances by Toby Keith and of course more interpretative dances.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is amazing blog. An excellent read. I’ll definitely be back.
