Yesterday was Memorial Day in the U.S. the day we remember our fallen heroes. Nile Gardiner, a British journalist for the Telegraph, wrote an article titled, “Barack Obama’s decision to play golf on Memorial Day was disrespectful and hardly presidential.”

Granted President Obama did lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in the morning – the first time during his presidency that he did so. But then he jetted off to Fort Belvoir in the afternoon to play golf.

As Mr. Gardiner so eloquently said in his article,” Above all, it would be viewed as an act of extremely bad taste on a day when the
nation remembers and mourns her war dead. I can’t imagine the PM even considering it, and I’m sure his advisers would be horrified at the idea. And if the prime minister ever did play golf on such a sacrosanct day he would be given a massive drubbing by the British press, and it would never be repeated.”

However, not one article can be found in any U.S. newspaper reporting Mr. Obama’s 12th time this year playing golf and his 70th
time since he became president. Even George W. Bush stopped playing golf when he was president in respect for all the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.  But not our dear leader, Obama, he needs his “me time.”

Mr. Gardiner then opined that the least the president can do on Memorial Day is spend the whole day with veterans and servicemen’s families while acknowledging their sacrifice. It is little wonder that, as Gallup reveals in a new poll, US military personnel and  veterans give Barack Obama lower marks for his job performance than members of the general public. The president’s actions smack of poor taste, as well a lack of empathy and support for the US military, hardly the kind of leadership the White House should be
projecting at a time of war.

You make the call, should President Obama stop playing golf and get serious or does he really need “me time?”

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla) is the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and not one of my bffs at all! The other day she felt that she should rip on Republican presidential candidates who opposed President Obama’s 2009 bailouts for General Motors and Chrysler.

At a breakfast organized by The Christian Science Monitor, she said, “If it were up to the candidates for president on the Republican side, we would be driving foreign cars; they would have let the auto industry in America go down the tubes.”

But according to Florida motor vehicle records, the Wasserman Schultz household owns a 2010 Infiniti FX35, a Japanese car whose
parent company is Nissan, another Japanese company. The car appears to be hers, since its license plate includes her initials.

Now if Democrats want to push a Buy American political campaign, you would think that they’d check out the parking lot first to find
someone who actually buys American.  For some people who need low cost and decent quality, there are few American options.  But Wasserman-Schultz hardly falls into that category, and the Infiniti is hardly a low-cost vehicle.  She even paid extra for a vanity plate with her initials on it.

Just to set the record straight, our family has a 2001 Chevy Impala and 1999 Ford truck. We buy American cars because we like the quality of the cars. But we don’t call out people who drive foreign cars during this time of economic troubles. Every person has their own criteria they are looking for in the car they drive. But when a haughty Chairwoman of the DNC slams the Republican candidates, she should look to herself first to see what she does.

As the saying goes, if you live in a glass house – don’t throw stones!

Yesterday, Mitt Romney was in Chicago fundraising with small business owners at Gino’s East pizza place. This pizza place is famous for their deep-dish pizza. After his meeting there was left over pizza and being a frugal type of guy, Mitt Romney sent the remaining  pies to President Obama’s Chicago reelection headquarters.

What a guy! Now this was no prank because the pies did make it to Obama’s HQ at no charge to them.

In fact, Tim Pawlenty also had some fun yesterday when he tweeted, “@barackobama sorry to interrupt the European pub crawl, but what was your Medicare plan?”

Oh those Republicans, just a bunch of funny guys aren’t they?

You know when times are tough when thieves try to steal train tracks for get cash for the metal tracks. In a town near Sacramento,  California, a pair of thieves spent hours dismantling a section of the Manteca railroad tracks before being busted by the cops.

In fact these thieves were working very hard during the day to steal the train tracks. An employee who works for the private train company that uses the tracks called police. They were stealing the rails and the iron that held the rails together.

Now this is a tedious task and obviously the thieves didn’t have the proper tools for the job. They were using poles to wedge and pull
everything up. However, they managed to strip 100 yards of the track. The iron from the tracks would bring a good price as scrap metal.

If these thieves would have worked on stealing from the nearby Union Pacific line they would have had been charged with a federal
crime. Because this was a private track line they are still in trouble but not with the feds.

Just think of all that energy they used could have been used for more productive use, but then stupid criminals do stupid things.

After two agonizing hours of watching this show – there was shock and awe! Shock that Chelsea Kane came in 3rd Place and awe  that Kristie Alley came in 2nd Place. As I predicted Hines Ward won the Mirror Ball Trophy this Season Twelve.

The show brought back the eliminated stars and some danced and some tried to do comedy. All of it fell short except for Kendra Wilkinson. If she had more time she would have been a pretty awesome dancer and maybe make it to the finals. Romeo danced with a choir of kids singing “The Greatest Love of All”. You know it was a tongue in cheek type of routine because Romeo said that he is doing all of this for the “kids.” But it was nice and of course Romeo thanked and loved everyone.

Sarah and Todd Palin were in the audience tonight in case you missed them. The GO GO Dolls sang – they are getting old. Sarah Evans sang -you know she is trying to make a comeback since her divorce and I heard she has a new boyfriend or maybe she is remarried now? Can’t keep up with her.

Loved Brooke Burke’s gown – it was rose colored long gown with layers that flared at the bottom. I guess wardrobe spared no expense for the Finale.

Now the show is over and they are planning a new one in the fall.

Hope it will be a good one.

Until next season ——-

During President Obama’s visit to England he signed the guestbook at Westminster Abbey today. While this isn’t a big deal what is a big deal is that Obama dated his signature with the year 2008! This is what he wrote and the date he signed:

It is a great privilege to commemorate our common heritage, and common sacrifice.

 Barack Obama

 24 May 2008

As you can clearly see Mr. Obama dated his entry in the book May 24 2008, rather than the current year. Apparently Mr. Obama was heard to ask the dean what the day’s date was which is understandable with a busy schedule he has but he managed to get the year wrong. A Westminster Abbey spokeswoman confirmed it was the president who had written the wrong date.

Now the White House is pleading jet lag. I can understand about jet lag for forgetting the day but not the year! Maybe he has thoughts of his glory days before everything now is falling apart.

With three stars left – Kirstie Alley, Hines Ward and Chelsea Kane – the finals were fun to watch. As expected Chelsea and Mark’s  FreeStyle was edgy and upbeat. Quite frankly, Chelsea wasn’t in sync with some of the dance steps at the beginning but was able to recover later. This dance wasn’t my favorite but the judges loved it and gave her a perfect score of 30. Her Judges’ Choice was the Samba and she did well on the dance – the judges gave her a 29 for a total of 59 points.

Kirstie Alley surprised the heck out of me with her FreeStyle dance. There were lifts, cart wheels and lots of fun. She danced barefoot and showed a lot of energy and of course her weight loss is dramatic. The judges gave her a 27. For the Judges’ Choice her Samba was flowing and sexy and she did very well. The judges gave her a 27 for a total of 54.

Then there was Hines Ward. The Judges’ Choice of the Quick Step was really great. He was light on his feet and the dance was full of fun. The judges gave him a 29. His FreeStyle dance was different but showed his athletic ability with his lifts. It started out slow but then picked up the pace and ended in a fun dance. The judges gave him a 30 for a total of 59.

Well there you have it. It is a tie between Hines and Chelsea. Kirstie doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning this competition. As I said before, the real competition is between Chelsea and Hines.

I loved Brooke Burkes’ white pleated dress and sheer skirt. She matched the dress with a gold belt and white jewelry. She looked like
spring and I really loved the outfit.

My prediction of the winner will be Hines Ward. His personality and fan base will make him a winner.

Tune in on Tuesday night to see who wins and watch one more dance from the final three.
