Not wearing your seat belt – it will cost you!

Posted on: August 4, 2011

I just don’t know why people still aren’t wearing their seat belts when they drive. This should be an automatic thing – just like putting your pants on in the morning. But it seems that 1,800 people in the Denver, Colorado area just learned their lesson a couple of weeks ago.

The Colorado State Patrol and law enforcement agencies in 11 counties held a nighttime “Click It or Ticket” crackdown from July 21 to 27. They did this because statistic show that nighttime passengers in vehicles seem to forget to wear their seat belts while driving. It doesn’t matter if you wear your seat belt during the day or night. If you want to be safe and not get killed in crashes – wear your seat belt!

In fact in one night officers ticketed more than 250 people. Of the 1,815 citations given, 1,684 of them were for unrestrained drivers and passengers ages 16 and up. The other 131 were for unrestrained children. Look folks, if you are stupid not to wear your seat belt that’s your problem but come on get those kids belted in while driving.

The minimum fine for not wearing a seat belt in Colorado is $65 for adults and $82 for unrestrained children. Col. James  Wolfinbarger, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol said, “Seat belts are the easiest and best defense to protect yourself in the event of a crash. Not doing so can cost you more in the long run than the price of a citation.”
