On the eve of the Florida GOP Primary

Posted on: January 30, 2012

I’ve been watching the GOP debates for several weeks, reading all the gossip about how Romney and Gingrich are dinging each other with stinging ads as well as Ron Paul putting out his stinging ads about both of them. Also saw that Rick Santorium’s daughter was ill and hospitalized for a couple of days, hope she is better the poor little girl.  So I thought I would sort this entire thing out because this GOP primary race will make your head spin!

First of all, Ron Paul, who is really favored by the younger people, has a problem with foreign policy. He claims that he isn’t an isolationist but an interventionist. Yah, whatever. You call it tomato I call it tomatoe! It’s the same thing but only different, right? I know he is staying in the race just to push his policies during the GOP convention to see if he can get some of his ideas on the platform. But then, most nominees would probably not follow the platform closely.

Then there is Rick Santorium. Nice man but he is too much of a Washington insider. That’s right I said that. He’s been in Congress and has some baggage that makes him an insider. He claims he’s a conservative and I believe him. But does the country really need a real conservative or do we need a moderate to be able to work with the Senate and House?

The one person I really don’t trust is Newt Gingrich. Sure he has big ideas, i.e. a base on the moon, but some of his ideas will cost taxpayers’ money. He claims that the GOP needs a conservative with “big ideas.” Sure, but, what we need is a nominee who has ideas on helping the economy, jobs, housing and reining in spending. Newt is also a cry baby. I am so tired of hearing him say that the ads in Florida are unfair and not true. Buck up Newt! Running for President isn’t easy especially when you have all the Democrats waiting to sling mud at you if you are the GOP nominee.

Then there is Mitt Romney – Mr. GQ! I really like him and feel that his ideas will work for this country. Yes, he’s very rich but you know people who know how to make money can really be a great help to this country. Most of these people are penny-pinchers and I would love to have a penny-pincher in the White House than a big spender with big ideas. Also he was governor of Massachusetts – a very liberal state – where he was able to work across the aisle and keep the state running. Sure he has RomneyCare under his belt but I believe that what he started in his state was good for his state and should stay in his state. And that’s what he says.

So despite who endorses the other candidates, like Herman Caine and Sarah Palin endorsing Newt Gingrich and Michelle Malkin endorsing Rick Santorium, I am endorsing Mitt Romney.  And you know that doesn’t mean a hill of beans to voters in Florida. They will be voting who they believe is the best GOP nominee to beat Obama and turn this country around.
